Mentoring

Mentoring is a wonderful way to get support during difficult times in your life or when you’re standing in front of a crossroad, or to get clarity and direction in your life or a specific area. For myself, mentoring has pushed me forward towards the direction that feels more aligned, it has help me to make decisions I was afraid to make (like starting my own business), and it has given me trust to myself and my skills.

What is mentoring?

Mentor is someone, who has experience from the same or similar issue or area, that the mentee is going through or needs support & guidance with. At a workplace, this could be a senior employee mentoring the new junior employee. In other settings, if you’re thinking of starting a business, you can get coached or mentored by someone who has done it themselves. In my view, mentor in this setting would be someone, who has started a business in a same or similar field of work, whereas a coach don’t need to be from the same field (but can of course!).

Benefits of mentoring

Mentoring is not a superior/inferior setting, rather meeting in the same eye (and heart)-level. I personally like it when I get support from someone who has gone this path through themselves and can talk from their own experience. It brings a deeper, more emotional level into it, where I have felt truly heard and seen. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily exactly the same path as I’m supposed to walk, and sometimes my mentor was just there to hold my hand and holding space for me, as I discovered & walked through the path myself. Mentoring opened up the creative gates to find & search my own way, and what truly feels right for me. It’s really about trial and error, and making decisions based on your own experience. Sometimes, mentors can show you what you definitely don’t want, and that sparks the seach for you, “if not that, then what?”

I definitely got also new perspectives and broadened my view for new, different possibilities too with my mentor. My mentors have opened my eyes for doors, that I didn’t know were there in the first place. I’ve also gained so much clarity, learned about myself and brightened my values. I’ve done mentoring both as 1:1 and in a group - both great support in the time. At this time I value being in a group setting because it almost brings like another dimension or level to the mentoring, when you’re sharing it with other people with similar or even completely different setting, but the same aim.

I’ve always felt holistically supported in my mentoring programs, and that’s why it has become my approach as well - you are unique and my mentoring aims to see you fully, as you are, with your unique dreams and purpose in this life. Everyone of us have a big mission here - and that doesn’t always mean that we become presidents or start big movements. Small things cumulate over time to big things, and sometimes we are not here to see the fruit of our work. We are all changing the world in our own way.

We rise through the resistance, so we can bloom as we are <3
